PARIS AIR SHOW

S+D Spezialstahl and BIBUS METALS UK were exhibitors at the 53rd International Paris Air Show in France between 17 June and 23 June 2019.

Here, we demonstrated our range of products, as well as our standards of quality, and informed visitors about the many possible areas of application for titanium and titanium alloys in the aviation industry.

The Paris Air Show – a long history of tradition

The story reaches back more than 100 years, to when André Granet and Robert Esnault-Peletrie organised the first Paris Air Show at the Grand Palais in Paris in 1909.

The number of attendees was astonishing with 100,000 visitors and 380 exhibitors.

Today, the Paris Air Show is the world’s largest aerospace event, it is continually growing, and takes place regularly every two years. It takes place on an alternating basis with the Farnborough International Air Show and the ILA Berlin Air Show.

As in previous years, a new record was set in 2017 with 2,381 exhibitors from 48 countries and 142,000 trade visitors in attendance.

Paris Air Show 2019

The aerospace exhibition took place in Le Bourget, just a few kilometres north of Paris.

A new record was set this year with 2,453 exhibitors from 49 countries in attendance. With 1,185 companies from 12 regions in attendance, France itself was the most heavily represented country. After France, the countries with the greatest contingents of exhibitors were the USA, Germany, Italy, England and Belgium. On top of that, the event organisers were also delighted with the 316,470 visitors, of which 139,840 were trade visitors.

The first few days of the Paris Air Show were intended for the trade visitors. The trade fair was also open to the general public for the final three days.

The latest technological innovations were presented, and the overall value of contracts signed was USD 140 billion.  The topics of safety and electrotechnology played an important role.

Air Show

It’s not for nothing that the event is called an air show – the companies exhibit their latest aircraft every day. In total, 47 different aircraft were in the flight programme in 2019, offering visitors an exciting show.

The air shows are certainly a decisive factor in why the Paris Air Show is able to record such a high number of visitors from the general public.

Our facility in France

The S+D Group has an international reach and has six facilities in five European countries.

Our sales office in France is located in Chartres. Our colleagues from France, Hafid Maskine and Fabrice Pesnel, were also at the trade fair and presented our wide-ranging stock programme for aerospace materials.

Our first-class aerospace stock programme

Our first-class aerospace stock programme consists of round bars, sheets and plates made from titanium and stainless steel in a wide range of dimensions and sizes.

S+D does more than just stock. Having our own machine park allows us to create custom blanks and carry out processing in an expert manner.

The focus at S+D is quality management. This is why S+D has received ISO 9001 certification and holds aviation approval in accordance with EN 9120, as audited by AirCert GmbH.

If you have any questions, Oliver Frankenheim and Piotr Jurkiewicz, our aviation titanium product managers in Germany, and Michael Brackenwagen, our aviation stainless steel product manager, will be happy to help.

Conclusion

The Paris Air Show was a successful event for S+D and BIBUS METALS UK thanks to lots of good and interesting discussions, and the establishing of new and valuable contacts.

The Paris Air Show was once again able to emphasise its importance in the aviation industry.

The next Paris Air Show, in June 2021, will also take place in Le Bourget.

S+D Spezialstahl will be at the Paris Air Show AGAIN in the future.

We look forward to seeing you there!
