S+D Sponsoring: Skeleton Strategy Meeting

S+D METALS regularry backs dedicated sports talents and supports them to succeed, according to the company philosophy "supporting your success". Last week, we were pleased to welcome Janine Flock, second in the skeleton world rankings, her coach Matthias Guggenberger and her technician Clemens Berauer to a strategy meeting.

Skeleton - special steels as a decisive detail for success

The spectacular sport of skeleton combines highest speeds of up to 145 km/h and sleds on which the athletes race head first down the bobsleigh run. Skeleton was declared an Olympic sport in 1926 and creates amazement worldwide.

The technology and materials in the sled must be developed continuously in order to remain internationally competitive. Special steels with their many advantageous characteristics play a key role here and can be a decisive detail for winning.

Skeleton Strategy Meeting in Düsseldorf

Last week, we were pleased to welcome Janine Flock, her coach Matthias Guggenberger and her technician Clemens Berauer to a strategy meeting in Düsseldorf. Since 2018, S+D METALS has been working together with Matthias Guggenberger, who is also the coach of Martins Dukurs, the most successful skeleton athlete of all time, to optimise the sledges using our special steels and to develop them further through innovation.

Matthias Guggenberger emphasised how impressed he was by the fast service and in-depth support from S+D METALS, which always takes into account the specific application and the associated special requirements for the material. During the conversation about technical details, Janine Flock revealed to us that in the end she always listens to her gut feeling when adjusting her sled. In combination with her passion for the sport and hard training, this method has paid off many times in the past.

Combined expertise that leads to success

In the 2018/19 season, both athletes used material from S+D METALS for the first time at the World Championships in Whistler CAN and the European Championships in Innsbruck AUT and won the European and World Championships straight away.

2020 in Sigulda (LVA), using S+D METALS materials led to World Cup titles once again. Janine Flock became the first female Skeleton World Cup winner in the winter of 2020/2021 and was also able to set an outstanding new track record of 51.49 seconds. Martins Dukurs also won the BMW IBSF World Cup 2020/2021 using S+D METALS material and can now look back on a total of 55 World Cup titles. On his home track he set two best run times.

S+D METALS material at the Winter Olympics 2022

The focus of the strategy meeting was the preparation for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, for which S+D METALS will continue to support the talented and sympathetic team with material donations. In October, the team will travel to the new Yanqing Sliding Center for the international training period, which will serve as a preparation for the Winter Olympics in February 2022. Janine Flock and Martin Dukurs will again use material from S+D METALS during their Olympic preparation as well as the Olympic Games.

S+D METALS is pleased about the promising strategy meeting and will continue to advise and support the team with material donations. We wish you continued fun, success and health for the 2022 Winter Olympics.
